Safety is our number one concern at Calvary, especially when the children are on the playground. Although we have thorough coverage in all play areas of outdoor play, accidents may occur. The staff and I have been observing and discussing various ways in which we can improve our safety measures and perhaps create a safer playground environment for your child. In order to provide the safest environment possible, we have concluded that each child MUST wear covered shoes (i.e. running shoes, tennis shoes, Keds, etc.) at all times while playing on the playground.
As we mentioned during "Back to School Night", it is dangerous for all children at this age to wear inappropriate foot wear to school (shoes with "heels", boots, slick soled shoes, etc.), as they can be unsafe for your child. You may want to save these types of shoes for special occasions. Your children are developing continuously and are learning to balance their bodies. Please support us by not sending your child to school in non-appropriate foot wear. Wearing slippers to school is acceptable. However, we strongly recommend you keep a pair of covered shoes on your child's shoe shelf at all times for outdoor play and community walks.
This decision has been made with your child's utmost safety in mind and heart. Accidents can and do happen. You can help us keep them at a minimum by supporting our policy. We have discussed this with the children as well and we thank you in advance for your cooperation.
At morning drop-off, please ensure your child is wearing his/her shoes prior to exiting the car. This will help to eliminate a long line of cars in the drop-off lane.
